About the Design
This design was inspired by the art of the Huichol (Wixaritari) indigenous group in Mexico. It is a tapestry interweaving symbols of their spiritual beliefs, such as the Sun God who rules the heavens and brings warmth and light to the world, the Mother Goddess (Tatei Werika—the eagle) who rules the sky and all living things, the wolf-people who humans descended from, the two serpents surrounding the world, and deer that serve as spirit guides for shamans.
