About the Design
This design was inspired by the art of the Huichol (Wixaritari) indigenous group in Mexico, and it depicts their legend of how daylight was created. Fire was not enough to illuminate the world, but when the Sun God appeared he was too close to the Earth and burned everything. The snake people tried to eat the sun, but ultimately it was Great-grandfather Nakawe who raised the sun with the help of the four cardinal directions to a place where it would light the world without burning it.
