About the Design
This design was inspired by the art of the Huichol (Wixaritari) indigenous group in Mexico. Every year they undertake a sacred pilgrimage east to Wirikuta, the land where they believe life began, to gather peyote. Peyote is one of their primary deities, and they use it to induce visions and attain nierika, the gift of sight. This design weaves images of the Huichols’ journey with symbols of peyote and corn, the Sun God and assorted animals important in their mythology.
