About the Design
This design was inspired by the art of the Huichol (Wixaritari) indigenous group in Mexico. Every year they undertake a sacred pilgrimage east to Wirikuta, the land where they believe life began, to gather peyote. Shamans lead the pilgrimage and ceremonial peyote dance, taking peyote to attain nierika, the gift of sight. The two-headed eagle at the top represents the shaman’s ability to see in all directions, and the eye at the center of the design reinforces the idea of nierika.
